Build 1411 Available for Download
AI is a lot tougher than it seems. I didn’t think this was going to be an easy task, but I’ve got to admit that I underestimated how much time this would take and how quickly it would push me to burnout. Consequently, I didn’t get as much done for this release as I would have liked, but I have learned a lot, and hopefully things will be easier going forward.
UMG, on the other hand, was a hell of a lot easier than I thought it would be. After my bad experience with Slate, I was a little afraid to even attempt to work on the HUD, but once I got started on it, things immediately clicked; I finished the current HUD in an evening.
Changelog
added a new HUD with the newly-released Unreal Motion Graphics, replacing the canvas-based HUD. Things look better already.
added AI to pawns: they now seek each other out and attack of their own volition. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you want to look at it), they’re pretty stupid.
added an experience bar and experience rewards granted to the killer upon their victim’s death.
removed traceline-based attack and replaced it with an AoE(ish) attack. Damage is now calculated for an approximately 1m radius in front of the player.
fixed various pawn position (are you okay, Annie?) and scaling issues; they should be a little more down to earth now.
Known Bugs
There’s no menu, so to exit, open the console by pressing [`] or [~], (below [ESC]), type exit and hit [enter].
On some occasions, the AI will not disconnect fully when the player transfers into a new character upon death, effectively restricting that character’s available movement range. This has been addressed in 1412.
Walking into the ocean may sometimes cause you to slow down, occasionally so much that you come to a complete stop.
Turning headbob off will cause the player’s head to move through the camera while running or sprinting, temporarily obstructing your view.
Running out of living people to spawn into upon death will cause you to freeze in place and will display a debug message onscreen. To “fix” this, open the console and type RestartLevel, then press [enter].
